Beaucarnea recurvata (Elephant's foot, Ponytail palm)
Native: Veracruz, Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosí, East Mexico
Beaucarnea (Ponytail palm) is a member of Asparagaceae, a family of flowering plants. (Edible Asparagus is it's popular cousin). Even though it has the growth habit that is reminiscent of a palm, it has no relation to the palm family (Arecaceae) at all. It's pronounced root stock allows the plant to store water longer than other house plants. This feature the Ponytail to survive seasonal droughts in it's native habitat.
A fantastic plant for office or home. Does best in bright rooms with full sun or light shade.
